The Chief Justice of Manitoba said that a private investigator followed him in an attempt to catch him for violating COVID-19 rules in order to embarrass him when he presided over a court challenge related to the province’s lockdown measures.
The Chief Justice of the Throne Court, Glenn Joyal (Glenn Joyal) revealed this information at a hearing on a lawsuit brought by seven rural churches in Manitoba.
Although he said he did not know who hired the agency, he said that he was deeply worried that this might be to influence the decision of the case.
During the virtual hearing, he said he realized that he was being followed by a car when he left the Manitoba Courthouse in downtown Winnipeg on July 8 and was driving around the city.
He said that private detectives even followed him to his private house and asked a little boy to ring the doorbell when he was not at home, trying to confirm where he lived.
Choyal said that so far, private investigative agencies have refused to disclose who hired them. However, Winnipeg police are investigating, he said.
