An A Place in the Sun buyer burst into tears after learning the “disturbing” truth behind the dream property.
Thursday episode Channel 4 display Seeing the host Jean Johansson meet Paul and Bev, they want to find the perfect home in Torrevieja, Spain.
The couple had a budget of £100,000 and wanted a place with space for guests and music studios.
The first three properties Jean showed them did not tick, but the couple liked Property Four. Paul said it was “almost perfect in every way.”
This bedroom townhouse is slightly higher than their budget, at £104,000, but has two bathrooms, front and rear balconies, and a covered terrace.
To make the music-loving duo more impressive, the public swimming pool is shaped like a guitar.
Paul added: “This is a lovely, lovely house. I call it Mary Poppins’ house. It’s almost perfect in every way. It’s really great.”
Joan replied, “Call me Aunt Mary! Is this a place where you can see your life?”
Before asking about the housing development project across the road, Paul said it was “a great possibility.”
He said: “We do have a concern. It’s just that the land they are going to build, 30 properties may be needed, I don’t know how long it will take.”
Joan replied: “I hope I can make some guarantees on this land, but I can’t. This is unpredictable.”
Her answer made Bev start crying, and Jean immediately put his arms around her to comfort her.
Bev said in tears: “I’m really depressed.”
Jane replied, “You really like this house, don’t you?”
At the end of the episode, the couple revealed that Building 4 was still their biggest concern and hired a Spanish lawyer to try to learn more about the construction site opposite the property.
However, they could not obtain any further information, so they decided to seize the opportunity to make an offer and be accepted.
A Place in the Sun broadcasts on Channel 4 every Sunday at 3pm.
