New York, NY — A construction accident at the site of the uptown Second Avenue subway seriously injured a worker when a slab of concrete fell on him. The construction accident occurred around 12:45 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2012, amNY.com reports.

According to reports, the worker’s leg was “inadvertently pinned” under a slab of concrete while working in a trench that houses utility cables at 86th Street and Second Avenue.

MTA officials stated that it was possible that the man may have been “standing in the wrong place.”

Responding emergency crews rushed the victim to New York Hospital in serious, but stable condition, an FDNY spokesperson reported. The man was reportedly alert and conscious and was not bleeding. It is suspected that he may have broken a bone in his leg.

Investigations into the construction accident are underway. It is unknown if the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health will be investigating as well.
