Dear President Biden,

We, the following signature alliance of global leaders — from civil society to commercial, artistic and faith communities, politics and Nobel Prize winners — call on American leaders to take action to help end Israel’s institutionalized rule and oppression of the Palestinian people , And protect their basic human rights. If the US policy insists on a political status quo lacking justice and accountability, a sustainable and just peace for all will still be difficult to achieve.

Your government promises to pursue a foreign policy “centered on the defense of democracy and the protection of human rights.” Recently, you said: “I believe that Palestinians and Israelis should also live safely and securely and enjoy equal freedom, prosperity and democracy.” For the Palestinians, the distance between these remarks and their daily lives could not be greater.

Even after the official ceasefire, violence by Israeli police and settlers against Palestinians continued. Palestinians were forcibly deprived of property in the occupied West Bank, including families living in the East Jerusalem communities of Sheikh Jala and Silwan, as well as the Israeli army’s aggressive actions against peaceful protesters and worshippers in the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Independent and unequal governance system. These policies undermine the social structure of the community and undermine any progress towards a democratic, just and peaceful future. The logic that pushed them led to the recent displacement of 72,000 Palestinians in Gaza, and they must also survive the ongoing humanitarian crisis caused by the 14-year blockade.

Looking to the future, the United States must address the root causes of violence that successive administrations have ignored. Your government must exert coordinated diplomatic pressure to help end growing discrimination and systemic oppression and ensure accountability to Israeli authorities that violate Palestinian rights.
