San Diego-The San Diego LGBT Pride will announce details of its face-to-face and online events in 2021 on Thursday, in stark contrast to last year’s completely virtual ceremony due to the pandemic.

Fernando Lopez, Executive Director of LGBT Pride in San Diego, said: “We are very happy to bring people together again this year.” “For Pride last year, we were 100% virtual. This year we will do a little bit at the same time. .

“This will be some virtual things and many face-to-face gatherings.”

Lopez said that holding a virtual event last year helped to establish connections that would not have happened, but without face-to-face interaction, some of the vitality of the event would disappear.

“For LGBTQ people, I think we are often in the closet, isolated from or separated from family members,” he said. “And COVID has had a disproportionate impact on our communities, so we know we can do what Pride does best: gather people together, celebrate, protest and find family and happiness. I can’t wait.”

Long-time activist Nicole Murray Ramirez and community leader “Big Mike” Phillips said that from the first event in downtown San Diego in 1975 to the virtual event last summer, to this year’s Hybrid mode, the mission remains the same.

“As I said, it reminds people that our fight for equality continues to this day,” Murray Ramirez said.

Phillips said: “There is an opportunity to go out and show each other the love and kindness that we have as an LGBT community.”

Although the specific details of the event and capacity restrictions will be announced this week, some dates have been set for the event for Pride 2021.

Activity schedule includes:

  • July 10: Her superstar;
  • July 14: Light up the inter-religious celebrations in the cathedral;
  • July 16: Stonewall Spiritual Assembly;
  • July 16-18: Virtual pride 5K;
  • July 17: Pride Live; and
  • July 17-18: Pride community events held throughout San Diego County.
