Brentwood, Tennessee (WKRN) – The founder of a controversial church in Tennessee is believed to have died after a small plane crashed into a lake on Memorial Day weekend. A total of seven people died.
The plane crashed in Lake Percy near Smyrna on Saturday morning. All personnel on board have been identified and believed to be dead.
FAA officials said that a Cessna C501 plane carrying seven people crashed at about 11 o’clock after taking off from Smyrna Rutherford County Airport.
The family members of those who are believed to be flying have been notified, and with their permission, the officials announced their names:
- William J. Lara
- Gwen S.Lara
- Jennifer J. Martin
- David Martin
- Jessica Walters
- Jonathan Walters
- Brandon Hannah
Everyone on the ship is from Brentwood, and all of them have passed away.
Gwen S. Lara founded her suicide sorority in 1999 as an extension of her popular book “Weight Loss.” More than 100,000 churches from 66 denominations began to organize “weighing workshop” ministries. In November 2004, the Reelant Fellowship Church in Brentwood opened to the public.
Shamblin said in the last interview: “It taught you how to build this relationship with food-we already have one in this country-a relationship with God.”
Since the beginning of the church, there have been questions and worries. Chambrin publicly denied the Holy Trinity, which caused the church to abandon her plan.
The Spirit-watch website published a 50-page report on church doctrine. The report finally pointed out that the remaining fellowship meets its criteria for becoming a cult. Chambrin and other church members sued Spirit-Watch and an anonymous blogger, who also criticized the church.
In 2007, a pair of church members were convicted of murdering their eight-year-old son who was beaten and locked in a wooden box. At the time, Shamblin said that the pair were innocent.
William Lara’s middle name “Joe” married Gwen in 2018. He is an actor famous for Tarzan in the TV show “Tarzan: Epic Adventure”. His work includes the appearance of “Baywatch” and key roles in the “Gunsmoke” movie.
