Active-duty soldier was hit by a truck while camping in the North Carolina National Forest

Bourne, North Carolina (WNCT) – Two active-duty soldiers were seriously injured after being hit by a truck in the Crotan National Forest in North Carolina.

According to Major David McFadion of the Craven County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, before midnight, a man and woman at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point camped in a tent while a truck was passing by.

The truck driver and the active military fled the scene. The suspect and the vehicle were subsequently arrested by the authorities at Lejeune, the Marine Corps base camp. The suspect was sent to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office for further questioning.

Both victims were taken to the Vidan Medical Center in Greenville, where they were seriously injured. The officials said they were in stable condition.

The Craven County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and NCIS, is investigating the case. Anyone requesting information should call the Craven County Sheriff’s Office.
