Washington DC(WRBL) -Residents of Columbus now have the highest honors of heroic soldiers in the United States.

71 years after fighting on the top of a frozen North Korean mountain 60 miles from the Chinese border, President Biden (Joe Biden) awarded Ret. Medal of Honor from Colonel Ralph Purkitt. South Korean President Moon Jae-in attended the meeting.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, fewer people receive awards than usual, but Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin-like Puckett in southern Georgia-is in the room. Biden took this opportunity to reflect on the long-term political and military relationship between the United States and South Korea.

Biden said: “South Korea is sometimes called the forgotten war.” “But those who are there under the command of Lieutenant Puckett will never forget his bravery. The people of the Republic of Korea have not forgotten that there is evidence that the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea attended this ceremony here. I suspect this has happened. Two days after Thanksgiving in 1950, the then 23-year-old Lieutenant Puckitt and the 8th Army Rangers faced an overwhelming Chinese army. Purkitt was seriously injured and was awarded the military’s second highest honor, with outstanding service cross-cutting. The award was promoted to a Medal of Honor.

President Biden said that Colonel Pukit humbly attended the ceremony..

“I know your first reaction to all of us hosting this event is,’Why all the fuss? Why all the fuss? Can’t they mail it to me?” Biden said. “I was going to the post office to make a joke, but I decided not to. Colonel Puckett, in 70 years, instead of mailing it to you, I will mail it to you. I think your life of serving the country is worth the fuss .”

One of the highlights of the ceremony was that Colonel Puckett pushed his walker away so that he could stand alone while reading quotations and winning medals. Purkitt is 94 years old and still maintains the toughness of the Rangers.
