San Diego (CNS)-San Diego County public health officials reported 138 new COVID-19 cases and 5 deaths on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases to 278,990 and the death toll to 3,737.

According to Saturday’s report, a total of 130 people were hospitalized, a decrease from Friday’s 136. Among them, 130 are the lowest level in at least a month. The number of patients in the intensive care unit dropped from 40 last Friday to 39 on Saturday. The county has 49 manned intensive care beds.

Of the 13,105 tests reported to the County Health and Human Services Bureau on Saturday, 1% returned positive. The 14-day rolling average increased to 1.7%.

The Sweetwater Alliance High School District announced Friday that it has provided vaccines to all students 12 years and older and staff wishing to get vaccinated.

The county has received 3.73 million doses of coronavirus vaccine and has administered more than 3.27 million doses.

More than 1.76 million people received a dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, reaching 84% of the county’s goal of vaccination for 84% of San Diego County residents (2,802,581) aged 12 years and over.

Among people over the age of 12, more than 1.31 million (62.5% of the county’s target) have been fully vaccinated with two doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or a single Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The California Department of Public Health approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children aged 12 to 15 on Wednesday, and 175,864 residents of this age group in the county can make appointments to receive the vaccine.

Anyone under the age of 18 must obtain parental consent before being vaccinated. In addition to the parent’s consent, the minor must also present a photo ID and proof of age, or the parent, guardian or caregiver accompanying the minor must verify his age and identity.

If the parent or legal guardian cannot accompany the minor to the vaccination site, they need to arrange an appointment on MyTurn.ca.gov to obtain their prior consent.

In contrast to mobile clinics that mainly use Johnson & Johnson vaccines, all static vaccination clinics in the county will be prepared to use Pfizer vaccines for appointments.
