California – Popular transportation service Uber has been fined $7 million after allegedly failing to provide information to California regulators about its business practices, as reported by the Associated Press.
An administrative law judge at the California Public Utilities Commission fined the taxi-alternative's California subsidiary the substantial sum in his ruling, agreeing with commission staff that the company’s subsidiary had not filed all reports that were required. The commission allows Uber and competing companies to maintain operations in the state as long as specified reports of their activities are filed. The regulatory agency said the company was the only of its type to not comply with the requirements.
Uber spokeswoman Eva Behrend stated following the judge’s decision that the company plans to appeal.
Behrend said in a written statement, “Uber has already provided substantial amounts of data to the California Public Utilities Commission, information we have provided elsewhere with no complaints.”
