Navy and Coast Guard search teams comb So. Cali waters for chopper crash survivors.
Los Angeles, CA(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–The United States Coast Guard and Navy search and rescue teams continue their efforts to find and recover two more Naval helicopter crew members and lost chopper wreckage in the waters off the Southwest coast of San Diego Thursday morning. The Coast Guard confirmed a HH-60 Seahawk Navy helicopter, flying with 5 flight crew, crashed 13 miles south of San Diego, in the waters near the uninhabited Coronado Islands, just before midnight Tuesday, May 19, 2009, as reported by the Associated Press (AP).
Three helicopter crew members bodies were retrieved Wednesday and the search for the missing two Naval training crew continues. The Coast Guard and Navy helicopter crash search and salvage specialists say the missing two flight crew members could survive 36 hours after the crash. These estimates are based on water temperature, body weight, top military training and other factors. The helicopter was part of a Naval antisubmarine squadron from Carrier Air Wing 11 and was participating in a search-and-rescue training exercise involving the Nimitz and several other ships when the fatal military helicopter crash happened.
