South Carolina – Several unsuspecting residents of a South Carolina subdivision recently received goodie bags filled with candy, courtesy of the Ku Klux Klan. As reported by The Wire, the hate group left the bags on the doorsteps of residents as part of a recruitment effort. Flyers were also distributed that read, “SAVE OUR LAND, JOIN THE KLAN.”
As noted in the report, some of the packages were inadvertently given to minorities. Robert Jones, a high ranking member of the organization, is quoted as stating to WHNS of the matter, “I mean, we can’t tell who lives in a house, whether they’re black, white, Mexican, gay, we can’t tell that… And if you were to look at somebody’s house like that, that means you’d be pretty much a racist.”
The fliers also reportedly listed a phone number for contacting the organization. Several people in the neighborhood voiced concerns over the recruitment packages being handed out, including one woman quoted as stating that some were angry and “ashamed to face our neighbors that do not have the same color skin that we do.”
