Garland, TX — A Garland firefighter was seriously injured during a freak accident while on-the-job on Saturday, March 24, 2012, reported Myfoxdfw.com.

Firefighter Bobby Brinkley was struck in the face by a high-pressure air tank, leaving him with a fractured skull.

Brinkley was reportedly with members of the Swift Water Rescue squad, who were called from Fire Station 8 to Rowlett Creek Preserve to rescue a dog that was trapped in the creek. The crew was using the air tank—much like a scuba air tank—to fill a raft to rescue the dog. But, the tank dislodged from the raft for unknown reasons and turned into a projectile.

Brinkley was hit in the face by the heavy metal tank. He was airlifted by a Careflight helicopter to Parkland Hospital, where he is intensive care.

Brinkley’s current condition is unknown at this time.

Brinkley has been with the department for about two years.

Once Brinkley was taken care of by medical professionals, the dog rescue was completed.
