Umatilla, OR — An industrial accident at a Umatilla manufacturing plant killed a 31-year-old worker on Saturday, March 3, 2012. The fatal workplace accident occurred around 10:20 p.m. at the JM Eagle’s manufacturing plant, located at 31240 Roxbury Road, reported OPB News.

According to the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, Thomas “T.J.” Heap, 31, of Umatilla was struck in the head with a pipe, leaving him fatally injured.

It is unknown what Heap, who was employed as a maintenance worker, was doing at the time of the accident, or what caused him to be hit by the pipe.

Police officials say the death “doesn’t look like it was anything more than an accident.”

Heap worked for the manufacturing plant for 10 years.

The Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division, along with JM Eagle, will be investigating the fatal industrial accident.

The McNary plant, also known as the Umatilla facility, makes PVC pipe products for waterworks, plumbing and irrigation.
