Son of South African President investigated after deadly car crash

South Africa – The son of South African President Jacob Zuma is being investigated over a car crash that left one person dead and two others with critical injuries. As reported by Reuters, the Porsche 911 sports car driven by Duduzane Zuma collided into a minivan in Johannesburg on February 1. The crash was only recently linked to Duduzane.

Johannesburg police spokesman Neville Malila said the investigation could take weeks to be completed. Malila is quoted by Reuters as stating, “One person died and two are still in hospital. We are investigating culpable homicide.”

The person killed in the crash was named by the Sunday Times newspaper to be 30-year-old Zimbabwean Phumzile Dube. Her husband, Themba, is quoted in the paper as stating of the accident, “Zuma killed my wife and I want justice… It doesn’t matter whether he is the president’s son – justice doesn’t have eyes. Everybody is equal before the law.”
