Knoxville, TN – A high school teen was recently arrested after trying to set a teacher on fire. As reported by WATE, the 15-year-old student from West High School was charged with aggravated assault and evading arrest in connection with the assault on Gabriela Penalba, 23.
Witnesses said that when Penalba turned her back to the classroom, the male student used a lighter to set fire to her hair and shirt, and subsequently tossed it out of the window. Students reportedly helped her put the fire out.
The suspect was arrested after fleeing from officers during a foot chase, and taken to a juvenile detention center.
Penalba’s skin was purportedly burned in the incident.
