Boston – A new study suggests there may be a possible correlation between BPA and an increased risk of miscarriage in some women. As reported by the New York Post, the research suggests the chemical may raise the risks of fertility problems for women who are prone to miscarriages or have challenges with becoming pregnant.
BPA, which is short for bisphenol-A, is a chemical found in a number of plastics and the linings of canned goods. The research does not show a proven a link between the chemical and a higher miscarriage risk; however, the study in mice shows possible influence of BPA on the risks.
Dr. Ruth Lathi, a Stanford University reproductive endocrinologist, is quoted in the report as stating of the findings, “It may be that women with higher BPA levels do have other risk factors” for miscarriage that might be amplified by BPA.”
A presentation of the study was made on Monday at the annual conference of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in Boston.
