Seaside Heights, N.J.—A truck accident caused two Seaside Park police officers to be medivaced to trauma centers and a third to be hospitalized on Friday, September 13, 2013. The accident occurred around 9 a.m. at Ocean Avenue as the police officers were being brought out from their all night shifts of manning stations from the Boardwalk fire, reports NJ.com

As the police officers were being relieved of their posts and being transported back, the rear gate failed on the pickup truck, which caused three officers to fall out of the emergency zone and into the roadway.

Two officers were medivaced to trauma centers and another was transported to a local hospital for treatment. They all reportedly sustained head injuries in the accident.

It is unknown at this time why the gate failed. Investigations are underway.
