Washington – A recent study shows that half of the people who now purchase their own health insurance are eligible for assistance. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), according to an estimate released by the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation, many people who earn too much to qualify for aid may also end up paying more for premiums under President Barack Obama’s health care law next year.

According to the study findings, 48 percent of families who currently purchase their own health insurance would qualify for federal tax credits next year.

Gary Claxton, director of the health care marketplace project at Kaiser, is quoted by the AP as stating of the findings, “About half of the people won’t be paying the sticker price… The people who get help will get quite a lot of help.”

Claxton is further quoted as stating, “Many, but certainly not all, of the people who don’t get tax credits will pay more… How much more will be a function of a lot of different things.”
