Daytona Beach, FL – A five-car accident occurred at the opening practice at Daytona International Speedway on Friday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the multi-car collision was triggered by Matt Kenseth during opening practice for the non-points race Sprint Unlimited.
As noted in the report, the accident occurred fewer than 10 laps into the first Speedweeks practice. Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Mark Martin and Juan Pablo Montoya were the others reportedly involved in the crash.
Kenseth is quoted by the AP as stating of the cause of the accident, “That was 100 percent driver error, my driver error…I had no idea anybody was there and he had a run at the same time and I came down in front of him and he couldn’t get slowed up from staying out of me. It was a hundred percent my fault.”
