Wilmington, Delaware – A 68-year-old man who opened fire at a Delaware courthouse killed his former daughter-in-law and her friend. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Thomas Matusiewicz of Edcouch, Texas opened fire on 39-year-old Christine Belford and her 47-year-old friend Laura Mulford, who were at the courthouse for a child support arrears hearing on Monday for Belford’s former husband, David Matusiewicz.
Bill Heriot, a plaintiff in a business dispute set for trial Monday, is quoted as stating of witnessing the shootings, and kneeling beside the first woman shot, “I held her hand, told her it was going to be all right. Her pupils dilated. She turned pale and passed away.”
Matusiewicz reportedly died after an exchange of gunfire with police. An autopsy is said to be pending to determine whether he was shot by police or killed by a self-inflicted gunshot.
