Phoenix – A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed in the death of a Border Patrol agent in connection with the controversial “gunwalking” operation “Fast and Furious.” As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the family of Agent Brian Terry, who was killed by gunfire near the Arizona-Mexico border Dec. 14, 2010 filed the lawsuit against ATF officials and others one day prior to the filing deadline.
The lawsuit alleges officials with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and others defendants named in the case should have known the risks involved in the gun operation, which was launched in 2009, for law enforcement authorities.
Agents reportedly lost track of approximately 1,400 of 2,000 weapons involved in the operation initiated to catch trafficking kingpins.
