Carlisle, Pa — A science experiment gone awry left seven students and a teacher injured in a eighth grade classroom at Wilson Middle School in Carlisle, reported USA Today.

According to officials, a small explosion that created a fireball was caused when unknown chemicals were mixed to together.

The teacher reportedly put out the fire with an extinguisher.

A responding medical helicopter transported two of the injured children to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Five other students and the teacher were treated at Carlisle Regional Medical Center for “minor” injuries. All six were released from the hospital by mid-afternoon.

The identities of the injured were not released at this time. The nature of the science experiment was also withheld.

Investigations are underway.
