Carthage, MO — A construction accident at a Carthage Masonic Lodge killed a Carthage man on Monday, February 27, 2012. The deadly construction accident occurred at 1339 West Oak Street at the Carthage Masonic Lodge No. 197, the Carthage Press reported.
According to reports, Toby Pauley, the Grand Worshipful Master in the local Masonic Lodge, was working with other Masons and volunteers when the accident occurred. Pauley was reportedly about 10 feet off the ground in the rafters, as they were raising stuff into the rafters, when he fell headfirst from the rafters to the concrete floor.
Pauley died instantly and was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is unknown what caused the fatal construction accident, or if Pauley was wearing a safety harness at the time.
Investigations into the construction accident are underway. It is unknown if the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be investigating as well.
