France international Benjamin Mendy was branded a “rapid serial rapist” on Thursday as prosecutors closed their case against the Manchester City star.
Mendy, 28, is on trial in north-west England on charges of seven counts of rape, one attempted rape and another sexual assault against six young women.
His co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, 41, faces six counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault against seven young women.
Both men deny the allegations.
Prosecutor Timothy Kray told a jury at Chester Crown Court that defense attorney Mendy had lured young women into “toxic and dangerous” situations at parties.
Mendy and Matturie assumed the women were “good for sex” and “never heard the word ‘no,'” the attorney claimed.
Her trial was told the alleged assaults took place at a flat Mendy rented in Manchester city center and at “after parties” at his home in leafy Cheshire.
Prosecutors say Matturie was the “fixer” who identified women from VIP lounges at nightclubs around the city and invited them to the parties.
As evidence, Mendy has denied lying to “save his own skin,” although he admitted to having sex with women “within seconds and minutes” of meeting them.
He admitted he’s had sex with a lot of women, but insisted he always quit when they said “no.”
Among Mendy’s character witnesses at the trial was his boss, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
But Cray said anyway, “There’s this dangerous streak that makes him a predatory serial rapist.”
“We all know that fame is absolutely no guarantee of good character, right?” he told the jury.
“In fact, celebrity in general is a really good cover for people to hide the dark side of your life and get away with it.”
However, Mendy’s attorney, Eleanor Laws, said each of the charges depended on “one word against the other” and claimed there were links between the complainants.
“People make false accusations,” she said, highlighting the case of a 19-year-old woman who accused both Mendy and Matturie of raping her.
Cell phone footage has emerged of the woman having “enthusiastic” sex with Matturie on an occasion where she claimed to have been raped.
The jury was instructed by the judge to find both men not guilty of these charges.
The trial was adjourned to Friday.
