29th Annual Caribbean American Heritage Honorees Announced

The Institute of Caribbean Studies is pleased to announce the 29th year honorees Caribbean American Heritage (CARAH) awards, which recognize individuals of Caribbean American descent who have made significant contributions to America and the world. The event is scheduled to return live and in-person on Friday, November 18, 2022 in Washington, DC after two years of being held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS) organizes the CARAH Awards to recognize the contributions and achievements of Caribbean American leaders in diverse fields while celebrating the Caribbean pride and great promise of Caribbean immigrants to America and worldwide.

“ICS created this event to showcase to American society at large the caliber of individuals who claimed Caribbean American ancestry and to provide a forum to honor and recognize their contributions to America and the world.” said Dr. Claire A Nelson, Founder and President of the Institute of Caribbean Studies. “This is still relevant today when we consider that a woman of Jamaican descent is now serving as Vice President of the United States of America.”

The 29th Annual Caribbean American Heritage (CARAH) Awards, hosted by CBS television reporter Ava-Joye Burnett with entertainment from Image Band, will be held at the JW Marriott in Washington DC. Recipients are selected from all walks of life and recognize their contributions to American/Caribbean culture through literature, entrepreneurship, public service, and others. This is very important to the nature of the awards as ICS seeks to highlight the broad contributions of Caribbean American leaders to society at large.
