Senior Justice Department officials will hold a press conference

US law enforcement officials will announce action Monday against suspected criminal activity by a nation-state.

What you should know: Attorney General Merrick garland will hold a news conference Monday afternoon focused on U.S. actions targeting “malicious interference and alleged criminal activity” by a “nation-state actor,” the Justice Department said, according to Reuters report.

That Ministry of Justice gave no additional details on the case, including the country or organization being targeted.

Garland will work with the assistant attorney general to discuss “significant national security cases involving malicious interference and alleged criminal activity by a nation-state actor in the United States.” Lisa Monaco and Assistant Attorney General for National Security Matthew Olsen, as well as with the FBI director Christopher Wray at 1:30 p.m. ET.

The announcement comes almost two weeks before the 2022 midterm elections on November 8. It is not clear if the plans involved are related. Last year the US Sanctions imposed on Iran about attempts to influence the 2020 US presidential election.
