- The patent protects key features of SUPERB’s ultrasonic applicator and cooling technology.
- First US patent granted on top of previously granted IP in China and Hong Kong.
- The company currently has 29 patents pending worldwide.
SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., October 18, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Sofwave Medical Ltd (“the Company”) SOFW, an emerging leader in energy-based, non-invasive, aesthetic medical devices for physicians worldwide, today announced that it has been granted a patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office. The approval grants US patent protection for key features of the company’s SUPERB™ (“Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam”) technology.
“We are pleased to be granted approval of our first US patent application for Sofwave’s ultrasound transducer array and cooling module,” said Louis Scafuri, CEO of Sofwave Medical. “The two key technologies enable the safe application of synchronous ultrasonic energy into the middle dermal collagen layer of a patient’s skin while cooling the top surface layer. This next-generation approach conveniently remodels collagen and further improves skin’s appearance. Sofwave’s method is a leap forward compared to traditional invasive skin resurfacing treatments, which carry the risk of side effects and involve significant recovery time. SUPERB™ technology’s ability to successfully and safely heat tissue and encourage the formation of Stimulating new collagen and elastin is a key differentiator for Sofwave.”
The granted patent protects two central technological elements in particular:
- The transducer array used to convert and transmit ultrasonic pulse energy into a patient’s skin and enable treatment.
- The cooling module, which maintains the surface temperatures of a cooling surface at a consistently low temperature, significantly reduces the potential for thermal damage to the outer layer of a patient’s skin surface, enabling safe and effective clinical outcomes.
