On June 24, 2022, Barron’s published an article entitled “Carvana Sought to Disrupt Auto Sales. It Delivered Undriveable Cars”, which, among other things, describes in detail: “[i]In its rush to capture market share from competitors, Carvana sold cars faster than they could be registered to their new owners” and “at one point formed an ad hoc entity known as the ‘Undriveable Cars Task Force.’ “; “[i]In other cases…Carvana sold cars before taking ownership of the vehicles, an act illegal in many states in which the company does business”; and “Government regulators in the US have been subdued [Carvana] to suspensions or increased oversight of registration delays and its practice of issuing multiple temporary license plates from states where it has dealer licenses rather than immediately issuing permanent ones [Carvana’s] Licensed to issue temporary permits at its two vending machine towers in that state … citing late filing of documents, “improper issuance and verification of temporary Pennsylvania license plates in other states,” and other violations.”
