GUILFORD, Connecticut, Sept. 08, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Late this afternoon, a federal lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for Connecticut on behalf of three parents and their children suing the Guilford, Connecticut Board of Education and certain administrative officials and Teachers over discrimination and other harm their children suffered after parents opposed the inclusion of Critical Race Theory (CRT) in the school district’s curriculum. The lawsuit is funded by the nonprofit organization We, Patriots USA, Inc.which is still collecting funds for this lawsuit and similar litigation through its Fundraiser for CRT processes.

That 27-page complaint alleges that plaintiff Danielle Scarpellino’s son was sexually assaulted at school on December 16, 2021, as part of an ongoing campaign of harassment he endured in retaliation for his mother’s vocal opposition to CRT in schools. The complaint further alleges that the school administration initially failed to report the incident to law enforcement or the Connecticut Department of Children and Family as required by law, and that they downplayed the attack when they finally did (at Ms. Scarpellino’s urging) . as a “mere school prank”.

The complaint alleges retaliation, coercive speech and religious discrimination in violation of the First Amendment and a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment’s equal protection clause, common law negligence and willful infliction of emotional distress. Plaintiffs are seeking compensatory, punitive damages and attorneys’ fees.
