On Wednesday, a Measure asking local police to deprioritize psychedelics Adult possession and consumption unanimously approved by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
Originally introduced by supervisors Dean Preston (D) and Hillary Ronen (D) and supported by Decriminalize Nature San Franciscoapproval of the resolution is a big step the does not lead directly to changes in local criminal justice policies.
Still, it thinks so City resources should “not be used in any investigation, detention, arrest or prosecution arising out of alleged violations of state and federal law relating to the use of entheogenic plants listed on the (…) Schedule 1 list” and for city officials to “direct” state and federal colleagues to also support psychedelics Decrim.
The resolution also notes that California has already started discussions about the decriminalization of property of small amounts of multiple psychedelic substances by condition Bill by Senator Scott Wiener (D).
Copies of the measure will be served to local police, prosecutors, California lawmakers, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Alex Padilla (D-CA) Governor Gavin Newsom (D).
“San Francisco joins you growing list of cities and countries reconsidering these herbal medicines with science and data in mind, and destigmatizing their use and cultivation. Today’s unanimous vote is an exciting step forward,” said Supervisor Dean Preston.
