NEW YORK, Sept. 07, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — While overall distress remains low compared to previous years, there are signs that filings are beginning to increase, as outlined in the latest report Polsinelli-TrBK Distress Indices Report.

“We have yet to see the impact of the economic issues we are facing as they will not take effect immediately. It takes time for people to find solutions to inflation and rising interest rates, and those solutions may include filing for bankruptcy. We assume that the number of bankruptcy filings will continue to increase until the end of 2022, especially in the real estate sector,” said Polsinelli shareholder Jeremy Johnsona bankruptcy and restructuring attorney and co-author of the report.

The Polsinelli-TrBK Distress Indices are the backbone of a quarterly series of research reports that use Chapter 11 filings — bankruptcies with assets greater than $1 million — as a proxy for measuring financial distress across the US economy and specifically for the collapse of emergencies in the US economy, real estate and health care industries use. It’s the only recent measurement that tracks both Main Street and Wall Street stats.

Other important updates to the report include:

• The Chapter 11 Distress Research Index was 29.75 for the second quarter of 2022. The Chapter 11 Index is down less than a point since last quarter. Compared to the same period a year ago, the index has lost over 36 points and compared to the same period of the fourth quarter of 2010 over 70 points.

• The Real Estate Distress Research Index was 19.98 in the second quarter of 2022. The real estate index is up less than a point since last quarter. Compared to the same period a year ago, the index has lost over two points and compared to the same period of the fourth quarter of 2010 over 80 points.
