Lambert and I, along with many readers, agree that Ukraine has sparked the worst information environment ever. We hope readers will collaborate in the comments to reduce the fog of war – real fog and stage fog. None of us need more cheerleaders and linkless repeat memes; there are platforms. Low-value, unlinked pom pom-waves will be hit immediately.

It’s not just a polite request to someone new here. We have written a site policy, and those who commented have accepted these terms. To avoid having to resort to the nuclear option of shutting down comments altogether until more sanity prevails, as we did in the 2015 Greek bailout talks and Immediately after the 2020 electionwe will ruthlessly mediate and blacklist violators.

PS Also, before further emphasizing the moderators we’ve already highlighted, please read Our website policy:

Please don’t write to ask why a comment doesn’t appear. We do not have enough bandwidth to investigate and respond. Complaining about moderation decisions/stumbling blocks using the comments section earns troll points for reviewers. Please don’t do this. If we come across these comments, they will also be deleted.

Now we are told there are weeks of corpses and no one buries them or filmed them and put them at the same time On social media or sending them to a media that knows how to protect sources…and no contemporaneous local photos from “a few weeks ago” have surfaced now? seriously? Add Sibiryak in the comments:

Lambert: Satellite photos are digital evidence. So I don’t think they have much authority.

But aren’t the photos from Maxar Technologies, a well-known US company with ties to the US Department of Defense and allegedly close to the CIA?

“As a Maxar customer, the Department of Defense is not just a passive consumer of Maxar’s images; it is, to some extent, a co-producer of those images.”

Butcha mourns at mass grave amid wreckage of Russian retreat AFP (Furry). It would be more plausible to say that some people were killed by shelling, but civilians as collateral damage in military operations do not constitute war crimes. Why do the Russians disrespect the dead, exclude them, and alert the locals to civilian casualties, when Moscow’s directive is to keep civilians from being hurt to minimize maliciousness?

Russia insists on April 4 UN Security Council meeting on Boucha situation – special envoy TASS. The title is lame, but basically Russia is demanding a meeting on the 4th, procedurally entitled to a meeting, and the current chair undermines the UK. How to read the war in reverse without getting ahead of yourself John Helmer. The idea is key: “Ukraine’s land offensive plan is a feint; sanctions war is Moscow’s main thrust.” While impossible to prove, this is consistent with the West’s failure to support Ukraine in action, which they should do once fighting begins Be prepared, and reports emerged that Victoria Nuland threatened Sergey Lavrov in the Kremlin last October that if the Russians let the Ukrainians occupy the Donbass, she would destroy their economy.

The first casualty of the war is the truth (live with Scott Ritter, YouTube. Especially from 1:01:55. But think he missed some brilliant points. Apparently, at least two mayors did agree to let Russian tanks and troops pass through their towns, but they were quickly murdered.

The antidote of the day. Tracy H:

I’m not sure what gender this little squirrel is, but I believe he/she is Belding’s ground squirrel. He/she lives near the Kern River along Highway 178 (California). When it first spotted me, it jumped off the rocks into these thorns, but when I didn’t walk away it came out looking better.

After about 5 minutes of tracking it from perch to perch, it finally determined that I was harmless and walked all the way to me. I was sad because I had nothing to reward its bravery, so I went to the car and brought back the only thing I could offer, a strawberry. She/he ran up to me, snatched it from my hand, and ran away.
