Amita Health is a joint operating company owned by Ascension and AdventHealth.
For Ascension Illinois, the move names facilities formerly known as Alexian Brothers Health System and Presence Health after Ascension. The rebranding provides a national cache of 142 hospitals and 2,600 care sites belonging to Ascension, the system said in a statement.
“As part of Ascension, the Ascension Illinois partnership will allow Ascension Illinois to bring the knowledge and resources of thousands of medical professionals across the country to our own physicians and caregivers to improve care,” said Keith Parrott, Marketing Executive, Ascension Illinois Division “The addition of the Ascension name to our own reflects the power of bringing the expertise of our state Department of Health Care to the people we are privileged to serve in Illinois.”
Hospital names under Ascension will be retained. The hired physicians and their teams will become part of Ascension Medical Group, one of the largest physician networks in the United States, the statement said.
AdventHealth, the national health system founded by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, is renaming its four Amita-named medical centers to AdventHealth.
In a separate statement, AdventHealth President/CEO Terry Shaw said: “We are excited to rebrand our hospital operations in Chicago and operate as a fully integrated and differentiated health system across all aspects of the continuum of care. “We will continue to serve the community, focusing on holistic care and making services easy and convenient for consumers.”
AdventHealth has named Thor Thordarson as president/CEO of AdventHealth’s Great Lakes Region, which includes facilities and medical groups in Illinois, the statement said. Thordarson previously served as Chief Operating Officer of AMITA Health.
