I can certainly understand the appeal of McLaren, but it’s one of those car companies that never made it to my must-have list.
The appeal of the 650S Spider, or any convertible since spring, is undeniable—that sensual shape, the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 that screams behind your ears as you drive through the big sky overhead. A retractable carbon fiber roof, forged staggered diameter wheels, carbon ceramic brakes, sports exhaust, dihedral doors make it a supercar with 641 hp to 60 in about 3.2 seconds.
In an era of chip shortages and skyrocketing used-car prices, the 7,400-mile, Sunday-only car is being used lightly. The original window sticker was $310,880, but earlier this year, the sticker sold for $177,000 in depreciation.
Falling prices are anti-inflation! (This is not an April Fool’s joke)
