• Nearly half of countries don’t need a license to carry concealed weapons – and it’s a growing trend The push to end concealed carry restrictions is reminiscent of the restrictions imposed by lobbyists and gun rights activists under “should be issued” licenses 30 years ago. States have passed laws that authorize agencies to issue concealed-carry permits to anyone who meets basic state-mandated requirements, such as completing a training course or passing a background check — a shift that has rapidly expanded who can carry concealed weapons. • How White Victims Fuel GOP Politics. Public opinion research shows that white Americans—especially Republicans—see whites as victims of discrimination, not as Hispanics or blacks. Only 17 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning Americans say there is “a lot” of discrimination against blacks in society today.
