Integrated health system Essentia Health (Duluth, Minn.) is adding intensive care unit (ICU) rooms to its new St. Mary’s Medical Center under construction in Duluth, according to an article in the Duluth News Tribune.
The project will include 32 ICU rooms on the 17th floor of the new building to address a need for more ICU capability demonstrated by the COVID-19 pandemic, hospital officials said in the article.
The expansion will bring the total number of single-patient rooms in the hospital to 342. A double-occupancy room in the neonatal ICU will be available for twins. Essentia also plans to have one floor of shell space available in the new facility.
