Entrepreneur launches Goodbill to negotiate hospital bills for at-home COVID test reimbursement

Goodbill is in beta testing and is designed to let users know if they have been overcharged for hospital procedures by generating comparable procedures from hospital price transparency data and automating the ability for users to dispute and negotiate those fees.

“Almost every hospital bill is negotiable,” Hague said. “Our product enables users to use available data to get lower or more accurate bills. For example, you can see not only what Beaumont is charging you, but also what other users are charging for the same service.”

The software also checks for errors in billing codes, which Haig and Sefferman say are common, so users can take it to the billing department to reduce bills.

The co-founders are also working on building an application for the Negotiation Outcome-as-a-Service service. Here, the app will automatically negotiate the bill for the user.

Goodbill has raised more than $3 million from a group of high-profile investors including Seattle-based venture capital firms Maveron and Founders’ Co-op, as well as prominent angel investors and former Nerdwallet CEOs Dan Yoo and Christian Sutherland. Glassdoor CEO Wong et al.

Haig and Sefferman expect a larger rollout of the Goodbill product in the coming months.

“We target the market,” Hague said. “We hope the reimbursement element will remove any issues from the consumer experience while ensuring our data is conducive to a larger launch.”
