Health care workers in the 24 states newly authorized for the COVID-19 vaccine by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will need to get their first shot by Feb. 14 and get their first shot by March 15, according to new guidance released by CMS Friday. Last stitch.

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that CMS’ requirement that employees at Medicare and Medicaid certifying agencies get the COVID-19 vaccine could go into effect in all 50 states, pending appeals from lower courts. The authorization previously stayed in about half of the country after states filed lawsuits over the policy.

CMS said Thursday’s decision will not affect compliance dates for suppliers in states where the authorization is already in effect. Employees in those 25 states and the District of Columbia and Territories must be fully vaccinated or exempt from the requirement by February 28.
