New Hampshire has reached a $21.1 million settlement with a Missouri company over inaccurate reporting of the cost of pharmacy benefit services, the attorney general’s office said Friday.

Centene and its affiliates, Granite State Health Plan, Inc. and NH Healthy Families, Inc., are responsible for one of three health plans in New Hampshire’s Medicaid Administration. The state began investigating costs, including the pricing of prescription drugs, after similar investigations in other states became public.

“This settlement represents a significant recovery for New Hampshire taxpayers and fully compensates for the economic damage suffered by the state,” Attorney General John Formela said in a statement.

In the settlement, St. Louis-based Centene Corp. denies any liability, any wrongdoing, and any violation of any federal or state statute.

“This no-fault agreement reflects our commitment to addressing this issue swiftly and transparently, as well as our tireless efforts to deliver high-quality health care outcomes for our members in the Granite State,” it said in a statement.

The company has reached settlements with several other states in recent months after a two-year investigation into whether the company overcharged Medicaid for prescriptions. Kansas reached a $27.6 million settlement in December, and Mississippi and Ohio settled lawsuits against Centene for nearly $144 million in June.
