CEO Brian Chesky hinted that popular travel website Airbnb may soon accept cryptocurrency for payment. “Just like the travel revolution, there is clearly a revolution going on in the cryptocurrency space,” he added.

Airbnb CEO Brian Chase asked on Twitter earlier this week: “If Airbnb could launch any product in 2022, what would it be?”
On Tuesday, he revealed that he had received 4,000 suggestions and pointed out that his company accepts encrypted payments. He added: “Since 2013, our existing payments = 336 billion U.S. dollars,” and noted:
Crypto payments include various token ideas.
Other most important suggestions include clear pricing displays, guest loyalty programs, updated cleaning fees, more long-term stays and discounts, better customer service, and “commercial space (kitchen, co-working).” While specifically confirming that Airbnb is studying commercial spaces, the CEO pointed out:
Most are already working and will now study others.
Airbnb operates an online marketplace in the travel industry. According to its website, there are currently more than 5.6 million listings worldwide. Since its launch in 2007, Airbnb has served more than 1 billion customers, and more than 4 million hosts have listed their properties on the platform.
Airbnb’s current payment methods in most countries/regions are Visa, Mastercard, Amex, JCB, and “debit cards that can be processed as credit cards.” Apple Pay, Google Pay and Paypal are also accepted. Cryptocurrency is not currently Airbnb’s payment method.
Chesky is ask Did Airbnb consider accepting cryptocurrency in November last year? He replied:
We are definitely studying it. Absolutely. Just like the travel revolution, there is clearly a revolution going on in the cryptocurrency field.
Chesky pointed out, “The founder of Coinbase is our early employee,” Chesky revealed, “We have been focusing on this space for a long time.”
The executive further believes: “The key is to go beyond the initial excitement when ordinary people understand how new technologies can improve their lives. I am very excited about certain applications that ordinary people can use to improve their daily lives.”
