At the latest briefing, Square Enix considered “strongly entering” the field of blockchain games as part of its mid-term strategic process.
Square Enix enters the blockchain market
Square Enix, the developer of popular game franchises such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts, revealed their intention to expand their business model to respond to the blockchain game market. The company made these remarks at its latest performance briefing on November 5. Square Enix stated at the meeting that as part of its mid-term business strategy process, it will “strongly enter” the blockchain game field.
In the briefing, Square Enix recognized the attitude changes that gamers are experiencing and hoped to have more control over the universe they interact with. In addition, the company said that the game world is moving towards a decentralized model, and the token economy in each game is occupying and expanding.Presentation at the briefing statement:
In addition to the kind of content creation we have traditionally engaged in, we will focus on blockchain games based on the token economy as a decentralized content form.
NFT proof of concept successful
However, a company as large as Square Enix cannot simply enter a new market without conducting some kind of testing in advance. It turns out that the company has released an NFT drop based on a franchise called Million Arthur, which was launched in 2012 and appears mainly in Japanese manga and mobile games. The company claimed that this was a proof of concept and successfully integrated the NFT market with one of its franchise rights.
The experiment was launched on October 14 and successfully sold the entire printing press in less than a month. The proof of concept has now ended, and the plan is expected to transition to a full commercialization stage. This means that we may see NFTs of the company’s famous franchises, such as Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.
