Cannabis-infused medical products can now be found around the world planet, with some exceptions.

Unfortunately, medical marijuana is still banned in some countries, although this is decreasing every year.

Medical marijuana legal models vary from country to country, from very strict CBD-only laws to robust medical marijuana programs like those found in Germany.

Thankfully, the list of countries that legalize medical marijuana has grown this month.

Legal medical marijuana in Panama

In a historic move in Latin America, Panama officially legalizes medical marijuana This month.

Panama was the first country in Latin America to legalize medical marijuana. While medical marijuana is legal in most other regions, Panama was the first in the region to do so.

In addition to creating a medical marijuana patient registry, the new law allows imports, exit, as well as the cultivation of medical marijuana within Panama.

Medical marijuana legislation was initially passed by Panama’s parliament in August before being formally signed into law by President Laurentino Cortizo this month.

Domino effect?

When it comes to medical cannabis reform in Latin America, the picture is complicated.

Medical marijuana reform is now fairly common in North and South America, however, in Latin America, where lawmakers have been more conservative on drug policy reform, this has remained elusive until this point.

The area has been ravaged drug War, many people are negatively affected by cartel violence and other crimes.

Hopefully, as medical marijuana succeeds in Panama, it will encourage the rest of Latin American countries to follow suit.

The entire region stands to benefit greatly from the tax, fees, employment and boost that legalization of the cannabis industry has given to the local economy.
