San Diego-Tuesday is the 10th anniversary of a woman found naked, tied and hanged at the historic Spreckels Mansion in Coronado.

The death of Rebecca Zahau was once again the focus of a legal action brought by her relatives on Monday.

The revised 153-page complaint against San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore required him to provide Zachau’s family with all department records, including detective notes. It also accused the sheriff and his investigators of ignoring key evidence in the case since it began in July 2011.

“There is a lot of frustration,” said Mary Zahau-Loehner, Rebecca’s sister. “For more than 10 years, our family has experienced a lot of hurt and heartbreak. But we will not stop fighting”

For Zahau-Loehner, who missed her sister every day, this was a difficult decade.

“We are afraid of this day, but at the same time we know she is in heaven,” she said. “This reminds us that we must continue to fight on Earth to get justice for her.”

Although the Sheriff’s Department has always insisted that the 32-year-old committed suicide, his family disagreed. They believe she was killed.

“Sergeant Gore likes to say that science does not lie,” Zahau-Loehner said. “Yes, science will never lie. Science says my sister was murdered.”

In the complaint, the family claimed that the sheriff and his investigators ignored the new evidence presented in the civil trial, which held that Adam Shaknai, the brother of Rebecca’s boyfriend, was responsible for her death.

The evidence included expert testimony that Rebecca was strangled to death before the scene looked like hanging.

“All the evidence they collected points to murder,” she said. “They just didn’t spend a day really investigating and investigating it.”

FOX 5 contacted the Sheriff’s Department to respond to the revised complaint, but no response was received. Normally, the department does not comment on pending litigation.

In addition to asking the sheriff to hand over all the records and allowing the forensic doctor to change the cause of Rebecca’s death, the family also hoped for another result.

“They really need to hand it over to another agency for investigation,” Zahau-Lona said. “At this point, they need to hand it over to another department, actually any other law enforcement department, but the sheriff’s department.”
