Bianca Andrescu said she has withdrawn from the Canadian Olympic tennis team.

The 21-year-old girl from Mississauga, Ontario posted on her Instagram account on Monday that she will withdraw from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to challenges related to the pandemic.

As the number of new COVID-19 cases is rising rapidly, and hospital beds began to fill up 11 days before the Olympics, the state of emergency took effect in Tokyo on Monday.

The state of emergency will cover the entire period from July 23 to August. 8 games, which means that fans will be banned from participating in the game.

Andrescu ranked 5th in the WTA Tour. She said it was a “difficult decision” and she dreamed of representing Canada in the Olympics since she was a child.
