The Wildfire Service of British Columbia said that a new wildfire broke out near Vernon in Okanagan in northern British Columbia on Saturday. The staff successfully stopped the fire in the nearby Coldstream area overnight.
The service stated that the Becker Lake wildfire is only one hectare, but it is very obvious from Vernon and surrounding areas. The fire is currently classified as “out of control”.
Fire Information Officer Aydan Coray said that the wildfire occurred 3 to 5 kilometers outside the town and the cause of the fire is currently unknown.
At the same time, the fire that triggered a night evacuation order in the Coldstream area on Friday is under way, and firefighters do not expect the fire to expand further.
Spokesperson Madison Smith said: “The Klerk Road wildfire was triggered late last night, but due to the hard work of our staff and the local fire department, the fire is now under control.”
At around 12:30 on Saturday morning, the city announced a tactical evacuation order. Some residents of the community were forced to leave their homes, but the district cancelled the order late in the morning and allowed residents to return home.
“Last night we had 29 personnel on the scene to assist the local fire department to put out the fire. Then this morning, we had a helicopter and used bottled water to help put out the fire,” Smith said.

There is still an evacuation alert in the area, and residents are required to prepare to leave immediately.
Close call
Jean Flanagan said that when she found smoke on the highway, she was spending a relaxing night on the deck.
“We finally received *5555, so I reported the fire and its location, and he asked me some questions, such as the size and wind of the fire,” Flanagan told CBC News, “I said,’Look, I can’ Needless to say, I need to prepare to evacuate.'”

She said that she woke up other family members, packed up the car, and discussed where they were going, but by then, firefighters had already rushed to the scene to put out the fire.
“I am very grateful. When they climbed up a very steep terrain and approached the edge of the fire, I could see their headlights shaking,” she said. “They are very brave people, and I am grateful for their efforts.”
Flanagan said that fortunately she did not have to leave home, but this experience made her realize that she needs to prepare for the wildfire season.
“Everyone in British Columbia has this trouble…It shouldn’t be surprising, but I always do.”
