Judge Mahmud Jamal of the Ontario Court of Appeals nominated as a judge of the National Supreme Court

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has nominated the distinguished Mahmoud Jamal as the next member of the Supreme Court of Canada.

Trudeau said in a statement: “I know that Justice Jamal, with his outstanding legal and academic experience and dedication to serving others, will become a valuable asset of our country’s Supreme Court.”

Judge Jamal, who is fully bilingual, was appointed to the Ontario Court of Appeals in 2019 and has appeared in 35 appeals from the Supreme Court of Canada on civil, constitutional, criminal and regulatory issues.

He also teaches constitution at McGill University and administrative law at Osgoodhall Law School.
