The EU puts Japan on their green list – but the British are still blocked
EU sources said on Tuesday that EU governments agreed on Wednesday to include Japan in the list of countries that allow non-essential travel, and at the same time postpone British tourists until at least mid-June.
Ambassadors from 27 EU countries approved Japan’s accession at a meeting on Wednesday, and this change will take effect in the next few days.
It is recommended that EU countries gradually remove travel restrictions on the seven countries currently on the list-Australia, Israel, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand.
Individual EU countries can still choose to require a negative Covid-19 test or quarantine for a period of time.
The European Union last month relaxed the criteria for adding new countries to the list, changing the maximum number of new Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people in the past 14 days from 25 to 75.
