Since the start of records in 1862, Wales has the wettest month in May, with a rainfall of 207mm, which is more than twice the long-term average and surpassed the highest record of 184mm set in 1967.

For most parts of the UK, the situation in May is similar, with rainfall in all countries/regions being much higher than the long-term average for that month.

The southwest and northeast of England, as well as parts of Wales and eastern Scotland, are the wettest areas, with an average rainfall of more than twice. So far, the United Kingdom has the fourth highest rainfall on record this month, with an average rainfall of 199mm.
