Edmonton-Two people were killed in an avalanche in the mountains of Alberta near the Columbia Ice Field.

Steve Young, the publicity officer of Parks Canada, told CTV News Edmonton that a mountainside avalanche occurred on Mount Andromeda.

There is no information on how the avalanche started.

No information about the victims has been released yet.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said they were notified of the avalanche at 7:45 am on Sunday in Canada Park.

Canadian Parks and emergency rescuers started rescue work and finally rescued the two victims of the avalanche.

Mounted police said that the victim appeared to have participated in recreational activities on the mountain before the avalanche occurred.

The body will be transferred to a medical examiner for identification.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said that as the investigation into the incident continues, no more details will be disclosed.

STARS communications officer Deborah Tetley said one helicopter from Edmonton and two helicopters from Alta Prairie. Sent to the Columbia Ice Field Discovery Center to report casualties caused by avalanches.

Two helicopters were deployed around 9 a.m., while the third was withdrawn after 11 a.m.

Tetley told CTV News Edmonton that after the helicopter arrived at the scene “there was no medical need.”

Young said that although there are no signs of further avalanches, the spring melt will quickly change conditions.

Mount Andromeda is located in the Columbia Ice Field on the border of Jasper and Banff National Parks. The mountain is located off Highway 93 near the Columbia Ice Field Discovery Center.

Young said that Highway 93 was not affected by the avalanche and no buildings were damaged.

Sergeants Rick Bidaisee and Jasper RCMP said in an interview with CTV News that Mounties initially requested the assistance of multiple ground ambulances in nearby communities, Canadian park visitor safety personnel, fixed-wing medical aircraft across the province, and STARS air ambulances.

Despite reports of other people on the mountain, the staff determined that two of them were unaccounted for.

Bidaisee said: “In the beginning, the thought process was (there were) multiple patients and casualties.”

Bidaisee said: “We arrived at the location and determined that the two people who used the area for recreational activities were caught in an avalanche.” “Rescue work has been carried out.”

Bidaisee said that once officials found the two men, they were pronounced dead.

According to Bidaisee, Mount Andromeda is a popular destination for many recreational activities, including skiing, mountain climbing and sightseeing.

He said: “In Jasper National Park, this is a very popular area.”

Bidaisee added: “We pay tribute to the family.” “People go out and do what they like and like. Unfortunately, the tragic situation led to this end result.”
